Dear Michael Scott

I know I am really, really late to the party when it comes to watching “The Office,” but I get it. I finally understand why there is such a hype about this show.

I recently took on the task of binging the comedy to see just exactly what I have been missing out on all these years, and I was actually disappointed in myself for not watching this show sooner. Now three seasons in, I think I can faithfully say I am addicted, and I am fully invested in the story between Jim and Pam.

Maybe it is because I feel like I can relate to the characters, or maybe because I find the stupid humor a lot more funny than it probably should be… but “The Office” is a show that I look forward to watching, and apparently do not mind wasting hours and hours of my time letting the episodes roll on by. For example, Netflix oh so kindly asked me twice last night whether or not I was still watching, and I was kind of offended. I think that means I have way too much free time, or should really get off my couch more often.

It is kind of sad that the show is no longer on, even though there are nine seasons that I have to work my way through. Right now, I am only about a third of the way through season three, so I still have a long way to go. Even still, I find myself constantly wondering what Michael Scott is going to say next, or what prank Jim is going to pull on Dwight, or just WHEN ARE PAM AND JIM GOING TO BECOME A THING?! Seriously though, that needs to happen ASAP. I can not handle how much that needs to happen. It is the main reason I continue to click “next episode” for hours at a time!

Anyways, if you have not yet started “The Office,” I suggest that you too jump on this and start the journey of Dunder Mifflin’s paper supply company. Especially if you have a great sense of humor, or need to work on your own.

On that note, I think it is time to tell Netflix that yes, I am still watching, and hunt down another show that I should watch when this one is done! Have a suggestion? Comment below!

Feb. 14

Valentine’s Day, Single’s Awareness Day, Galentine Day… There are a lot of different titles that today can be labeled as depending on who you ask (Or Taco Tuesday, because you can not let that one go to waste either). Today would be a perfect excuse to do another country playlist, or any type of playlist really. Or perhaps even a list of books to read, man and women crushes… there are a ton of options. But, this one seems a little more fitting, and probably even weirder to some.

I will admit that I have a made-up list of “Couple Goals.” Couples who I find completely adorable and seem to have the who “Dream Team” feel under control. This list consists of everyone from Hollywood actors, country artists, even sport couples have been known to be added to my list. So, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I give you my top five “Dream Team” couples (and as I write this, I realize that this list is embarrassingly long).

1. Scotty McCreery and Gabi Dugal

tumblr_mcl5r7lsbt1qc4k7no7_400While Scotty McCreery won the hearts of thousands when he was on American Idol, it seems the hometown girl had won his long before he was a country artist. If you follow McCreery on social media, the couple just celebrated their five year anniversary, and their posts are just as cute as they are.

2. Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins thomas-rhett-vacation-new-song

Two of my all-time favorite songs are written by Thomas Rhett, and they are inspired by his wife and childhood best friend (I am starting to see a trend). With “Die a Happy Man” and “Star of the Show” both being number one hits, it is no surprise that their love is as magical as the songs.

3. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively

I feel as if this was a win-win for the two of them. Lively got to marry Deadpool, and Reynolds got to marry Serena van der Woodse. As two of Hollywood’s hottest actors, and Ryan Reynolds being a comedy genius, they really seem to be Hollywood’s power couple.

4. Martin Truex Jr. and Sherry Pollex5-29-162btruex2bwins2bthe2bcoca-cola2b6002bcredit2bcharlotte2bbray

Okay so maybe not everyone has heard of them. But if you have, you have to admit that these two have a story and a bond like no other. After Pollex’s battle with cancer, the couple still has yet to ever get married (they prefer life partners instead) and continue to not only kick but on the track but also raising awareness for ovarian and pediatric cancer.

5. Barack and Michelle Obama

All politics obama_wide-4809c60b4faa061d7a6262d757d5b387ca155a3b-s900-c85aside, these two are a perfect pair who never fail to make it known how much they love each other. From Michelle’s fitness kicks and Barack’s corny dad jokes, it is so sweet to see how they show their love to the world. They may not be in the White House anymore, but they will still be on this list no matter what.

So whether or not you are celebrating this holiday with your significant other, your dog, your friends, or food, just remember that you should show love 365 days a year, not just on a Hallmark holiday. Love makes the world go round, and so does the chocolate that will be on sale tomorrow.

Netflix and Chill

That is pretty much exactly how I spent my winter break… besides working, I was catching up on a bunch of shows that have been getting awesome reviews. I started and finished three shows: “Stranger Things,” “The OA,” and “Series of Unfortunate Events.” Consensus? I was not disappointed.

“Stranger Things”

I have had a lot of people tell me I need to watch this, including one of my professors during the fall semester. When I finally had the time, I am pretty sure I knocked this show out in about a week… maybe less. A creepy story line with an 80s vibe totally kept me locked in, and it even took the throne from “Downton Abbey” at the SAG Awards for “Outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.” Now, I am just like everyone else. Waiting for season two to start. Anxiously.

“The OA”

Again with the creepy vibe, this one was more confusing, and still has me kind of puzzled. Honestly, I do not even know how to explain this one. But if you are not one to sit and actually follow along with complicated plots… this might not be the one for you. It does totally fit a weird, science category though.

“Series of Unfortunate Events”

Now if you are a bookworm like me, you may have read the actual series by Lemony Snicket. You may have even seen the movie that starred Jim Carrey, which was okay… though this series is probably my favorite. At first I did not know if I was going to enjoy this, but the more I watched, the more I saw the characters that I pictured back when I was reading it come to life. Totally worth finishing in a few days.

For now, until another show catches my eye, I am sticking to “This Is Us.” If you do not watch that, start, now.

Lists of 2017

A new year leads to a lot of hopeful resolutions that may or may not be fulfilled. I can not tell you how many lists I have created over the last week, optimistic that just maybe one of them will be completed in 365 days.

During one of my many hours skimming through Pinterest, I stumbled upon this thing called “bullet-journaling” that kind of caught my attention. This new trend takes all your to-do lists, lists of books to read, workouts to try, and anything else you can think of and puts them into a cute, trendy journal. As one who loves to write, doodle, create lists, this seemed right up my alley! Maybe I will start one of these in the near-future, but for now, I started a “Books to Read 2017” list that I figured I would write up here.

Being only a week into the new year, I am pretty proud to say I already finished my first book on my list. It was “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, and I bet a lot of you probably read this one in middle or high school. Somehow I had missed that memo, and reading now made it even more worthwhile for me (I finished it in like three days). Seeing how much times have changed since the book was written is fascinating, and no wonder why so many people tend to really enjoy that book.

Anywho – while my reading list is definitely going to grow over the year, here is what I am starting January off with. Have you read any of these? Have any book suggestions that you think I should add? Be sure to write them in the comments below!

Books to Read:

  1. Go Set a Watchman – Harper Lee
  2. Two by Two – Nicholas Sparks
  3. The Little Paris Bookshop – Nina George
  4. The Light Between Oceans – M.L. Stein
  5. The Couple Next Door – Shari Lapena
  6. I’ll Meet You There – Heather Demetrios
  7. It Ends With Us – Colleen Hoover

Living in a Muggle World

Even though the last book installment of the Harry Potter series came out nine years ago and the last movie came out five years ago, the magic is still running high. Growing up in the fandom, my life sometimes seems taken over by the world of Harry Potter. When the last movie premiered, I thought that was the end. My childhood would officially be declared over and the love I have for the characters would forever be a memory. Thankfully, J.K. Rowling has yet to disappoint me in keeping the magic alive.

In 2016 alone, us Potterheads have had a crazy year. Pottermore is still growing, the history behind what Rowling was thinking when writing the series is a daily discovering with her on Twitter, and we have had more than a couple books handed our way. This past summer also lead to the debut of “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child,” the play written by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. Although it is only in Great Britain for viewing, the world was able to read along with the published script. Being sucked in to the magical world all these years later brings out the child in all of us. The ones who refuse to truly grow up. curesd-child.jpg

Our magic is not just over yet either. It was announced that another movie would be gracing the screens. “Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them” is expected to be released in November. The film based off the that book that Hagrid used to teach Care of Magical Creatures back in fourth installment of the HP series. While it is technically going to be it’s own trilogy, the film will be based in the same world as Harry Potter, and to me, that is close enough! Until then, I will casually wear my Gryffindor socks and continue to wait for my acceptance letter to Hogwarts… which seems to have gotten lost in the Owl Post somewhere. And do not be surprised if I write about this more often, because HP will forever be one of my favorite things to talk about.

A New Beginning

Back in 2015, I took a journalism class that required me to make a blog for an assignment. It was awesome, and a crazy learning experience. I chose to write completely about country music (you will quickly learn that is something I am very passionate about). If you click here, you can see it for yourself 🙂

Now that was fun and all, but I wanted more. Something that I could branch out with, even though I really do eat, sleep and breathe country music. With that, this site wast created. Kristen’s Crossing is my new canvas, a place where I can talk about music, my crazy adventures, the random thoughts that pop in my head… just about anything really. So, here we go, get ready for what is to come!
